Agriculture has a problematic impact on groundwater and therefore on drinking water quality. Due to divergent interests between the water sector and agriculture sector, a high conflict potential arises. This research explores the interdependencies between the agriculture and water sector with the help of actor-mapping method. The different positions, diverse perceptions, conflict of interests and mutual interests, values, measures, incentives and communication processes of the water sector and agriculture sector with regards to prevention of further groundwater contamination while focusing on farmer’s livelihood are analysed based on the mutual-gains approach. Consensus-building is used to elaborate how mutual interests and shared values between both sectors can be effectively merged. The findings of this research indicate that an effective collaborative planning approach between both sectors can lead to sustainable agriculture practices that are protective to groundwater quality. date: 2017 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: EIP tutors_name: Dr. Elen-Maarja Trell, keywords_local: mutual gains approach keywords_local: actor-mapping keywords_local: consensus-building keywords_local: sustainable agriculture keywords_local: groundwater contamination keywords_local: collaborative planning approach language_iso: en titleorder: Building consensus in a complex multi-actor setting between the agriculture and water sector dbi: 59b286af49c94 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/EIP/2017/estetinger/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132455-59b286af49c94.xml date_issued: 2017-01-01 citation: Stetinger, E.
