The area under investigation is the Achterhoek, a depopulating region in the eastern part of the Netherlands. A questionnaire was completed by 400 migrants migrating from outside the Achterhoek to one of its municipalities. It became clear that the most mentioned reason for migrating to the Achterhoek were reasons related to the rural idyll, family or cohabitation. Logistic regression models revealed that age, civil status, education, income, previous living experience and current municipality can all be related to certain migration motivations. Moreover, this research is the first to reveal (small) differences between the motivations of migrants who were and were not aware of the fact that they migrated to a depopulating region. date: 2015 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: POPST tutors_name: Duijn, M. van keywords_local: Rural idyll keywords_local: Pull factors keywords_local: Rural-migration keywords_local: Awareness of depopulation keywords_local: Depopulation keywords_local: Achterhoek language_iso: en titleorder: Migration to depopulating regions: the case of the Achterhoek dbi: 574d5adff21db imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/PopSt/2015/rmulder/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132454-574d5adff21db.xml date_issued: 2015-01-01 citation: Mulder, R.
