N2  - The French multinational AREVA (Adoption Resource Exchange of Virginia) operates three uranium mines in Niger; the current COMINAK (Compagnie minière d'Akokan) and SOMAIR (Société des Mines de l'Air) mines and the new Imouraren mine that is meant to start production in 2015. This paper analyses the social impact of AREVA?s mining activities in Niger, the application of the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) in Niger by AREVA and whether or not SIA should be applied in the case of uranium mining in Niger by AREVA.
