The research focuses on how Eritrean status holders build a new network in the city of Groningen and what is the influence of initiatives, such as Humanitas. I use social network theory to conceptualise how Eritrean immigrants build their network. Interviews, starting with a mental map, were held with 6 males and 6 females. Also a key informant was interviewed. The themes that emerged from the data are: perceptions of the Netherlands, urban and rural areas, meeting places or opportunities and person/actors in the network and the position of women. The theme barriers and experiences has several subthemes: language, time management, neighbours and reserved. These different themes provide insight into how the Eritreans experience building a network in Groningen. date: 2018 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: POPST tutors_name: Haisma, H. keywords_local: Social support keywords_local: Tie strength keywords_local: Eritrea keywords_local: Refugees keywords_local: Network language_iso: en titleorder: "I can ask questions", building a network in Groningen from an Ertirean perspective dbi: 5bb5e13a2f915 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/PopSt/2018/mmoorlag/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132455-5bb5e13a2f915.xml date_issued: 2018-01-01 citation: Moorlag, M.
