abstract: The above mentioned issues challenge Van Oord BV to operate in Moscow. The strategy was to enter the market and use location specific factors of Moscow as well as the products it offers. A foreign company needs to organise legal entities, look for opportunities and deal with the political rules. Entering a market is the beginning of a process; maintaining the market position requires more effort. Organisation of labour policies and processes, doing business, negotiating with Russian partners and taking care of the bureaucratic procedures requires patience and management skills. Furthermore, the Headquarter is facing the European problem of aging people and a shortage of high skilled engineers and marine educated candidates. Considering all this described above, a Dutch marine construction company operating in Russia must implement a strategy, taking into account all the trends which can affect the performance.
