Among older adults, loneliness is a common phenomenon. An example of a place with a large share of older adults and therefore a high risk of loneliness is Delfzijl. The objective of this study is to provide insights into the subjective well-being, social needs and social capital of potential future older residents of sheltered housing ‘Wonen met een PLUS’ in Delfzijl, in order to contribute ultimately to the goal of older adults living happier and less lonely lives. A main conclusion is that at older age, fulfilment of certain social needs becomes more difficult and social capital in the neighbourhood becomes more important in terms of access to help, support and preventing loneliness. Moreover, especially social relations and living an easy life are found to be important for the subjective well- being. date: 2018 date_type: published thesis_type: pre_master degree_programme: POPST tutors_name: Meijering, L.
