This is done with two case studies. One of them is the red line metro extension on the south side of Chicago and the other one is congestion pricing. With the results of the case studies it is shown what the importance is to address the topic of equity in public transport. The red line extension has a positive influence on the vertical equity of commute times in the public transport of Chicago. Furthermore, the red line extension will probably have a positive influence on the economic development of the region. It is concluded that alternatives for congestion pricing have to be provided for people with lower incomes in order to be equitable. This means that it is important to compensate with alternative modes of transport for the increasing inequity of congestion pricing. date: 2016 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: SP tutors_name: Hamersma, M. keywords_local: Congestion Pricing keywords_local: Transit Dependent People keywords_local: Accessibility keywords_local: Mobility keywords_local: Public Transport keywords_local: Equity keywords_local: Red Line Extension language_iso: en titleorder: Equity in the Chicago public transport system and the influence of the red line extension and congestion pricing dbi: 587e36fedcae4 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/Plan/2016/swester/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132454-587e36fedcae4.xml date_issued: 2016-01-01 citation: Wester, S.T.
