abstract: After the financial crisis there is a decreasing supply of traditional financing possibilities for developers. This research investigates the opportunities for developers to use crowdfunding as an alternative source of financing to develop in real estate. 
Through a qualitative research approach, insights are gained regarding the (1) the motivations for developers to engage in crowdfunding and (2) how developers would apply crowdfunding. 
Concluded is that if an appropriate institutional context is formed and professional crowdfunding platforms emerge, disadvantages of crowdfunding experienced by developers can be reduced so that developers are more interested in using crowdfunding as an alternative financing method.
