To research this, the following research question has been addressed: “How can the municipality of Groningen adapt to the issue of urban heat via the usage of sustainable innovations?”. Three in-depth interviews were conducted to determine the different perspectives of the municipality of Groningen, a housing corporation in Groningen and the green mayor of Groningen. A heat map of Groningen and policy reports on urban heat and/or climate adaptation have been analysed as well. According to the map, the industrial sites and the city centre are the main hot areas. The policy reports showed the possibilities of reducing urban heat and implementations to provide more greenery into the city between 2020 and 2024. The interviews showed that cooperation between included actors should improve. Implementing sustainable innovations are hindered by financial issues, policy acts and lack of cooperation. date: 2021 pages: 34 thesis_type: bachelor degree_programme: TP tutors_name: Horlings, L.G. tutors_organization: Fac.
