"Recent findings indicate that subjective well-being is lowest in the largest urban region of countries with developed economies. An important factor in this urban paradox is the possibility of borrowing urban benefits for people living in proximity of these large urban areas. Based on this premise, this research aims to combine spatial and quantitative analysis to answer its main research question: “How is subjective well-being influenced by residential proximity to a large urban area?”, while also dissecting some national differences. This thesis draws on secondary data from the European Social Survey (ESS) 2018 to conclude that there is a negative linear relationship, with little national differences."^^ . "2021" . . . . . . .
