However, not much is known about the influence of cultural heritage on the well-being of residents. Therefore, this research tries to answer the question to what extent cultural heritage proximity influences subjective well-being (SWB). This study researches the city of Groningen, the Netherlands, a middle-sized city with mixed neighbourhoods containing both a sizeable amount of cultural heritage and no cultural heritage at all. This was realised by conducting a mixed methods approach, using both a questionnaire and conducting in-depth interviews. The results indicate that there is no direct relation between cultural heritage proximity and SWB. However, the in-depth interviews suggest that cultural heritage can indirectly affect the residential satisfaction of inhabitants, and therefore, can also have an effect on SWB. For future research it is, therefore, recommended to conduct more in-depth interviews to gain a greater insight into this effect.
