From the literature it stems that there exists a so called ‘implementation gap’ with regard to the ecosystem services approach in planning. The aim of this research is to analyze how the ecosystem services are being addressed in policy and to what extent they are implemented in the practice of spatial planning. Therefore, a comparative case study is executed between the cities of London (United Kingdom) & Rotterdam (Netherlands) with a specific focus on the coastal zone. From this research it results that the most important aspect in closing the implementation gap for ecosystem services lies in a combination of different tools in addressing multiple ecosystem services. This research provides a framework of which tools can be utilized for the different ecosystem services. date: 2013 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: EIP tutors_name: Woltjer, J. tutors_name: Riquian Li, keywords_local: Ecosystem Services Approach, Spatial planning, Tools language_iso: en titleorder: Coastal Zone: Different Worlds are Colliding! dbi: 52aef68946420 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/EIP/2013/wlbosma/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132454-52aef68946420.xml date_issued: 2013-01-01 description_company: Rijksuniversiteit Groningen citation: Bosma, W.L.
