Thus, the provision of child friendly environments is essential for fulfilling their physical and mental well-being. This will create a healthier community in both the short-term and long-term. The knock-on effect of investment in such infrastructure will therefore save a lot of money in the future. The focus of this research is to find out what attracts children to use green spaces in neighborhoods within the city of Groningen. Using a green space accessibility index, this research looks at the behaviour of families in two different neighborhoods intending to identify the variables that influence the use of green spaces in Groningen. The research will observe and compare their behaviour using survey data, observational analysis, and GIS analysis integrated with several conceptual variables. Results show that there are certain factors that influence the use of green space more than others. The most influencing variable is the social influence of communities. Findings show that there are both similarities and several differences between the two different types of neighborhoods and the conclusions drawn in this thesis should be used by the city’s spatial designers in improving the city’s green spaces for the benefit of the children and the, in these communities. date: 2021 pages: 39 thesis_type: bachelor degree_programme: TP tutors_name: Niekerk, F. tutors_organization: Fac.
