Through the case studies of Yongqingfang and Shawan Ancient Town in Guangzhou, China, this study found that micro renovation can affect residents' well-being from four aspects, respectively physical infrastructure, buildings, public open spaces, and clean and green (spaces). Using Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, this thesis concludes that micro renovation of physical infrastructure can improve residents’ well-being through meeting their basic needs, while the public open spaces are closely related to residents’ higher-level pursuits.
