abstract: The research evaluates the preferences of higher education students of the physical environment and social interaction at their study locations. Therefore, the report investigates the research question: “How does physical environment and social interaction influence the willingness to study at the study location of higher education students?” The qualitative data analysis consists of eight participants, who responded to interviews and filled out surveys. In addition, the study environment was investigated by an observation checklist. The findings match with the expectations. The physical environment of the study location and the social interaction have an impact on the choice of study location. Therefore, it was discovered that social interaction does have a positive effect on higher education students based on a specific type of social interaction. This study shows the complexity of the preferences of higher education students in relation to the components of the study environment.
