It tries to do so by adopting an area-oriented approach. Both literature was studied and interviews were conducted. There currently is a situation that is sub-optimal for environmental inclusion regarding infrastructure projects in the MIRT. Several recommendations are done to improve this situation that act on ability and willingness. First of all, there is a need for a widened scope that does include environmental issues from the beginning to the end of a MIRT project. Secondly, involving the right actors at the right time is an important step towards effective environmental inclusion. Lastly, willingness is a limiting factor in current environmental involvement in MIRT projects.
