N2  - This research paper examines the community dynamics of mountain communities in the western Piedmontese Alps in light of the recent implementation of policies targeted at repopulation by the regional government of Piemonte, Italy. The study aims to analyze the potential effects of these repopulation efforts on the sense of community, place attachment, and rural marginalization of these communities through a qualitative research approach. Through interviews with residents and experts, the study found that the sense of community and place attachment among respondents were perceived to be strong and no perceivable positive or negative impacts were felt as a result of the implemented policies. However, the study also found that rural marginalization did not appear to be impacted by these regional incentives as their effects remain unclear due to their recent introduction. The study suggests that further research is needed in this field, with a focus on more specific localities and involving respondents who have made use of the regional incentives to relocate. Additionally, the study suggests that future policy efforts should take a more holistic approach, involving collaboration between policy makers, third-party actors, and the resident population to introduce more innovative governance methods to tackle the impacts of depopulation.
