"Stakeholder engagement for nature-based solutions – A collaborative approach for climate adaptation at the urban environment"^^ . "Nature-based solutions have lately received considerable attention from scientists who focus\r\non climate change. They can prove beneficial for flood resilience by contributing to sustainable water\r\nmanagement, natural water retention, floodplain restoration, and biodiversity conservation. They are\r\nmore sustainable & cost-effective than traditional engineering solutions. Despite their application for a\r\nvariety of purposes, there is still a lack of understanding of the influence of stakeholder engagement in\r\ntheir design and implementation process.\r\nThe purpose of this study is to contribute to the understanding of the role of stakeholders in\r\nplanning processes, in particular the design of nature-based solutions, focusing on flood resilience in\r\n\r\nurban areas. The research is supported by the study of the Dakpark Project (Rotterdam), a community-\r\nbased initiative, that addresses climate change effects, including flood resilience and aims at enhancing\r\n\r\ninclusiveness and public participation. Foundation for this study is the theory of collaborative planning.\r\nThe aim of this study is to explore the potential of stakeholder engagement on NBS projects,\r\nbased on the concept of collaborative planning. Literature review, interviews, and site visits are\r\nanalyzed to answer the main research question of “How stakeholder engagement in the design process\r\nof nature-based solutions, addressing flood resilience, can increase the acceptance of them among\r\nstakeholders?” Additionally, factors that can influence the process of collaborative planning and\r\nbarriers are studied to provide room for future developments in the planning practice. This is qualitative\r\nresearch that focuses on the societal aspect of the planning practice and hopefully, its results will steer\r\nfuture planning approaches to make them more inclusive."^^ .
