"Understanding and addressing the high Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in Niger is pivotal, given its global\r\nsignificance. To shed light on this issue, the study employs the Demographic Transition Theory and the\r\nPlanned Behavior Theory, aiming to comprehend the evolving fertility patterns and the role of beliefs\r\nand norms in women's reproductive choices. The study's objective is to dissect how demographic, socio-\r\neconomic factors, and attitudes, beliefs, and practices collectively contribute to Niger's high TFR.\r\nUtilizing the 2012 Niger Demographic and Health Survey dataset, this study delves into the\r\ndeterminants of high TFR among women aged 15-49. Employing Poisson regression analysis with age\r\ngroups as an offset, the study seeks to identify factors influencing Niger's TFR. Descriptive tables and\r\nPearson's chi-squared tests facilitate the discussion of respondent characteristics and their association\r\nwith TFR (p-value < 0.05).\r\nResults spotlight socio-economic factors as pivotal contributors to high TFR. Notably, factors such as\r\nresidential location, age at first cohabitation, attained education level, employment status, earnings\r\ntypes, child mortality rates (<1 and 1-5), and contraceptive usage exhibit statistically significant\r\nassociations with the number of children ever born. However, child mortality rates (>5) and abortion\r\nlack significant statistical correlation with the TFR.\r\nIn conclusion, the study underscores the importance of strategic interventions. Recommendations\r\ninclude increased investments in education, integration of adolescent-friendly healthcare programs,\r\nwomen's empowerment initiatives, and enhanced male engagement in family planning and sexual and\r\nreproductive health programs. Tailoring family planning policies to cater to diverse age groups and\r\ngeographical contexts is also advised. By addressing these multifaceted factors, policy makers and\r\ngovernments can contribute to a more sustainable demographic landscape in Niger."^^ . "2023" . . . . . . . "Delilah"^^ . "Namutebi"^^ .
