abstract: Since the conception of AirBnB there has been a drastic shift in tourism accommodations on the Greek islands. This thesis focused on researching the socio-economic impacts of AirBnB rentals on locals on the Greek islands. A quantitative analysis focused on the spread of AirBnB rentals, whereafter Serifos was chosen for a qualitative analysis. The results show that the amount of AirBnB rentals increased at the expense of housing for local people. The interviewed stakeholders perceived negative impacts on the local community and fears for the future if AirBnB rentals are not properly regulated.
