By performing a statistical analysis using the Spearman correlation test on secondary data, this research identified the characteristics of improving resilience across different countries in the region. The results show a positive relationship between the level of funding and efforts in land restoration. Higher urbanization rates are associated with lower planted seedling numbers, but the relationship is modest. HDI was not significantly correlated with improvements in resilience. Those who have actively engaged in international projects tend to have better outcomes regarding resilience. Support is further provided in national policies and governance frameworks, where countries with higher governance structures and political freedom seem to be doing well regarding resilience initiatives. Nonetheless, there are still challenges of inadequate funding and technical weaknesses within monitoring systems. This study demonstrates that strong governance and international cooperation are pivotal in enhancing resilience in the Sahel. Future research should focus on the long-term impacts, the role of traditional knowledge, and specific policy measures to further understand and improve resilience efforts in the region. date: 2024 pages: 23 thesis_type: bachelor degree_programme: TP tutors_name: Busscher, T. tutors_organization: Fac.
