In the Netherlands, the ageing population is encouraged to age in place and limited alternative living options for older adults are available. However, ageing in place can be associated with disadvantages such as loneliness and isolation. Consequently, residential systems for older populations are reevaluated. This study aims to determine whether intergenerational living could be a solution to mitigate these disadvantages and raises the question: “How do older adults who age in place perceive the potential of intergenerational living in Haren?”. Intergenerational living can be defined as a group of people from different generations living together. The objective of this study is to contribute to a general narrative about intergenerational living, thereby aiding in the discussion of alternative housing options for the ageing population in The Netherlands. This qualitative research analyses ten conducted semi-structured, qualitative in-depth interviews. The results indicate a potential of intergenerational living in Haren, recognizing the importance of compatibility of co-residents, and provides insight into older adults' perceptions. Further quantitative research could establish patterns to determine how many people are interested in intergenerational living and the significance of their motives. date: 2024 type: Thesis type: NonPeerReviewed format: text language: en identifier: https://frw.studenttheses.ub.rug.nl/4580/1/Bachelor-Project-HGP-by-Jara-Zorzi.pdf identifier: Zorzi, Jara (2024) Intergenerational living in Haren: exploring the perceptions of older adults on intergenerational living in Haren.
