abstract: This bachelor thesis examines socio-spatial disparities in Pernambuco,Brazil, focusing on urban coastal versus rural inland regions. The research utilizes quantitative analyses to explore the subject of socio-spatial disparities and their characteristics and the relationship between
urbanization and those disparities. Pernambuco's unique characteristics, historical context, and social vulnerability are also considered. Findings reveal a weak but significant negative correlation between urbanization
and the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI), suggesting that higher urbanization in coastal areas is associated with lower social vulnerability. Policy implications include promoting urbanization with infrastructure
development and addressing historical inequities. The study underscores the importance of small-scale analysis for tailored policies. While a connection is established, caution is advised in attributing causation,
necessitating further investigation into confounding variables.
