The Boterdiep/Korreweg/Rodeweg intersection is a chaotic, unclear, and often dangerous collection of roads, signs, and crossings. In the interest of promoting Healthy City goals, a redesign is attempted, prioritizing pedestrian- and bicyclist-friendly design and walkability. This is done while maintaining the current purpose of the intersection, an essential corridor for moving people and goods between the city center, surrounding residential neighborhoods, and outlying communities. Several design options are explored, including shared space models, raising pedestrian crossings, adjusting the geometry of roadways, and removing car access from road sections. The final design offers a combination of the aforementioned elements, potentially offering more protection to non-motorized traffic such as pedestrians and bicyclists. This redesign creates some spillover of negative traffic effects to nearby intersections, however the trade-off is considered to be acceptable. %D 2024
