C. title: Mapping Far Cry 2 ispublished: pub full_text_status: public abstract: Far Cry 2 is a video game, which is set in an African country in civil was. The goal of this thesis was to see how Africa and African civil wars are represented. A survey has been done to assess whether images of the game are recognized by people who have been or have lived in Africa. An online questionnaire has been taken among players of Far Cry 2 to assess their attention to the (veracity of the) landscapes. In regard to the map, there are a lot of physiogeographical impossibilies and human geographical improbabilities, but at eye level the landscapes are fairly well recognized in the survey. The biggest flaw in this was the absense of civilians, which might be to avoid controversy. There is little sceptism among the players on the veracity of the landscapes. date: 2010 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: CG tutors_name: Groote, P.
