In contrast to the preliminary assumptions are the possibilities and benefits of these forms of urban planning far more extensive than the mainly discussed extremes of urbanization and architecture; let alone the possible side effects for both the city and the region. The goal to become the ‘next’ global metropolis of the twenty-first century is ambitious but the city may have the largest potential of the Middle East. If Abu Dhabi becomes the next global metropolis of the twenty-first century is difficult to predict but when aiming at its (regional) hub function, these sectors has proven to perform better in a crisis, it has the potential, especially in combination ecological modernization or the sustainable shift. date: 2014 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: EIP tutors_name: Beaumont, Dr. J.R. keywords_local: Ecological Modernization keywords_local: Super-Branded-Mega-Development International Hub keywords_local: United Arab Emirates keywords_local: Abu Dhabi keywords_local: Arabian Peninsula keywords_local: Economic diversification keywords_local: Urban planning keywords_local: High-Income Developing Countries keywords_local: Post-Oil Economies language_iso: en titleorder: Urban Planning as an Instrument for Economic Diversification in High-Income Developing Countries of the Arabian Peninsula: The Case Abu Dhabi dbi: 530f5d4453e23 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/EIP/2014/rdijkhuizen/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132454-530f5d4453e23.xml date_issued: 2014-01-01 citation: Dijkhuizen, R.
