In order to be resilient social networks, trust and norms and values are important features of social capital in a community. There are two forms of social capital: bonding and bridging. When a village has strong social capital it is more likely to be resilient to change. The features and forms of social capital are researched empirically in two small rural village: Wanlockhead and Drummore, in the Dumfries and Galloway region, Scotland. For data gathering a survey and interviews are carried out. In the two villages social capital is present in the researched features and forms of social capital. But in both villages there is something to gain in order to get more social capital and be more resilient when changes occur. The research is a cooperation with the Scottish Agricultural College, Edinburgh. date: 2012 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: CG tutors_name: Strijker, Prof. Dr. D. keywords_local: Rural Scotland keywords_local: Rural Resilience keywords_local: Social Capital keywords_local: Qualitative&Quantitative research language_iso: en titleorder: Family, friends, acquaintances, colleagues, incomers and strangers: The role of Social capital in building resilience in rural communities dbi: 50cf1c72488d3 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ma/CG/2012/hjkuipers/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132453-50cf1c72488d3.xml date_issued: 2012-01-01 description_company: Scottish Agricultural College citation: Kuipers, H.J.
