A case study research into project management principles. ispublished: pub full_text_status: public abstract: The MIRT programme and the ideas of complexity and aligning uncertain and unpredictable behaviour of components of a complex adaptive system are contrasting. Therefore, project managers try to find management strategies in order to deal with the duality of control and flexibility. Seven challenges are derived from practice, regarding a tight planning, dealing with a fixed budget, an unclear project description, the continuity of the project management team, the lengthy decision-making process, how organizations deal with the formal institutions and dealing with wicked problems. The theory is suggesting three categories of adaptive measures, that increase the flexibility in the planning process, hence, helping project managers to deal with uncertainty. First, creative capacity ensures a variety of pathways by giving multiple actors and levels access to the planning process. Secondly, learning capacity helps organizations recognizing a changing context faster, hence, accelerate the adaptation process. Thirdly, cooperative capacity initiates a shared vision. date: 2019 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: EIP tutors_name: Leendertse, W.L. keywords_local: flexibility keywords_local: adaptive capacity keywords_local: project management keywords_local: complexity keywords_local: MIRT programme language_iso: nl titleorder: Building adaptive capacity in project management strategies in a MIRT institutional context.
