This research creates an understanding in how these buildings can enhance the urban identity of its surrounding area. This is relevant because, when many cities implement iconic structures in the same way, its very uniqueness may lead to placelessness. This research is done by studying two cases of iconic buildings namely: the Groninger Forum (Groningen, Netherlands) and the Hubei Landmark Tower (Shenzhen, China). By analyzing these iconic cases based on multiple levels of urban identity this research shows which aspects are vital to enhance the identity of the surrounding area. date: 2018 date_type: published thesis_type: bachelor degree_programme: TP tutors_name: Horlings, L.G. tutors_name: Zhao, Y keywords_local: Levels of urban identity keywords_local: Urban identity keywords_local: Enhancing keywords_local: Globalization language_iso: en titleorder: Enhancing the urban identity of the surrounding area using iconic buildings dbi: 5b58417ca67c9 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ba/TP/2018/wwhggruijters/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132455-5b58417ca67c9.xml date_issued: 2018-01-01 citation: Gruijters, W.W.H.G (2018) Enhancing the urban identity of the surrounding area using iconic buildings.
