By looking at what kinds of barriers and facilitators are encountered in daily life and their impact on the mobility of wheelchair users, an assessment on public space is made. This is done by go-alongs and interviews. During the go-alongs, a gps-tracker was used to add another layer of interpretation that would not be possible via qualitative research methods alone. The overall assessment of public is space is that there are restrictions encountered on a daily basis. These restrictions were not unsurmountable but do vary in severity depending on the individual. The barriers that were encountered the most were steep ramps, uneven pavements and high curbs. The effect of these restrictions can lead to feeling mistreated or marginalized. However most of the participants expressed that they think the public space is wheelchair accessible. date: 2017 date_type: published thesis_type: bachelor degree_programme: SGP tutors_name: Meijering, L tutors_name: Wietkamp, L keywords_local: barriers keywords_local: experience keywords_local: interviews keywords_local: trackers keywords_local: gps keywords_local: space keywords_local: public keywords_local: Groningen keywords_local: mobility keywords_local: wheelchair keywords_local: facilitators keywords_local: go-alongs language_iso: en titleorder: Public space & the mobility of wheelchair users dbi: 5977373fe5985 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ba/SGP/2017/rbusse/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132455-5977373fe5985.xml date_issued: 2017-01-01 citation: Busse, R (2017) Public space & the mobility of wheelchair users.
