Regional dilemmas for the Wadden region sub-program ispublished: pub full_text_status: public abstract: For the Delta Program the greatest challenge is to deal with uncertainties and complexities working on adaptation strategies. This challenge led to the development of the Adaptive Delta Management concept, meant to improve adaptive capacity and the ability to cope with these factors. The implementation of this concept takes place in a number of regional sub-programs, of which a closer look is taken at the Wadden region that has to deal with specific long-term water safety tasks, ecological interests and fragmented decision making. Attention is paid to the dilemmas this sub-program encounters in setting up regional strategies. It turns out the sub-program has trouble linking up with regional ambitions, setting up adaptive governance structures and creating coherence within the program, all the result of prevailing traditional regimes that hamper the introduction of adaptiveness. This research shows Adaptive Delta Management requires serious contemplation to increase its applicability in various regional contexts. date: 2013 date_type: published thesis_type: master degree_programme: EIP tutors_name: Brink, M. van den tutors_name: Dijk, T. van keywords_local: spatial planning keywords_local: flexible decision making keywords_local: complexity keywords_local: climate change keywords_local: adaptive planning keywords_local: adaptiveness keywords_local: adaptive management keywords_local: adaptive governance keywords_local: strategic decision making keywords_local: uncertainty keywords_local: water management language_iso: en titleorder: Adaptive Delta Management, the Delta Program in a balancing act between traditional and adaptive approaches.
