To provide answers, quantitative data from the KiGGS baseline study is used. The findings indicate that the risk of childhood obesity is almost twice as high when mothers did smoke during pregnancy compared to mothers that did not smoke during pregnancy. The sex of a child did not affect the relationship between childhood obesity and maternal smoking, however, the age of the child and socioeconomic status of the mothers did. The older a child the more likely it is that the child is obese and has a mother that smoked during pregnancy. Socioeconomic status turns out to have an influence on the relationship between maternal smoking during pregnancy and childhood obesity as well. However, it depends on the different components of socioeconomic status to what extent it influences the relationship. date: 2019 date_type: published thesis_type: bachelor degree_programme: SGP tutors_name: Vogt, T. keywords_local: Sex keywords_local: Life course approach keywords_local: Maternal smoking during pregnancy keywords_local: Childhood obesity keywords_local: Age keywords_local: Socioeconomic status keywords_local: Germany language_iso: en titleorder: Relationship between maternal smoking during pregnancy and obesity among German children. dbi: 5d246777624e4 imported_item: yes date_of_import: 2020-04-22 imported_from: http://scripties.frw.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/root/ba/SGP/2019/efhansen/ import_source_file: theses-frw-20200422132455-5d246777624e4.xml date_issued: 2019-01-01 citation: Hansen, E.F.
