description: This thesis explores the benefits and costs of the availability of public transport in rural areas. This research will give more insight in the perception of the public transport by people living in rural areas. The results show that the teenagers benefit a lot from public transport, because they do not own a car. Older people are expected to benefit a lot as well, but most of them have a car as alternative. Main motives for people to use public transport are travel time, weather and not owning a car. The most important motive for not using public transport was the availability of a car, which is faster, more reliable and more flexible. In general people are happy with the availability of public transport, but for many of them it does not improve the accessibility to cities.
