Aim of the research was to determine the impact of governance policies on the different developments of life expectancy. Methods that are used to see if differences in governance policies were responsible are a literature research on implemented policies with respect to healthcare and a decomposition of mortality rates. Results show that both reforms directed at the functioning of the healthcare system as well as strengthening the existing model can have drastic effects on life expectancy. Although, smaller policies do impact mortality rates occasionally, these are often overshadowed by social-economic factors. Policies that restrict alcohol- and tobacco consumption can impact preventable mortality rates. However, little policies that restrict this consumption are made. date: 2019 date_type: published thesis_type: bachelor degree_programme: SGP tutors_name: Remund.
