%X The objective of this study is to get a better understanding about how the subjective wellbeing of older adults in Vledder can be explained by the age-friendliness of the environment, as shaped by competence and press. The theoretical foundations of the research are the Person-Environment Fit model and the age-friendly cities of the WHO. Data have been collected through ten in-depth, semi-structured interviews and seven walking interviews. The findings showed that for the participants, adapting the home and using informal care was a way to cope with barriers in and outside the home. Physical accessibility and proximity of facilities and activities were important characteristics in the village and did not always meet the needs of the participants. Concluding, the importance of the garden, the (electrical) bicycle and the need for homes in the village where care could be provided, turned out to be more significant than previous literature suggested.
