Abstract
The Indonesian city of Bandung has been facing worsening traffic conditions for many years and despite continuous attempts by the local government to address the situation, this issue not only remains, but is even increasing. One of several possible explanations may be that the planners do not adequately include local knowledge into the design of the public transportation systems, leading to a misalignment between the systems' characteristics and the needs of the citizens. This thesis focuses on how local knowledge is gathered, utilised and valued in the planning process of Bandung’s Light Rail Transit system by the planners whom are, at the time of writing, planning the project.
