Abstract
This Thesis investigated the extent to which winegrowers are aware of the climatic changes and the impacts they have on viticulture and what adaptation strategies can they possibly adopt to face these effects. This research was carried out by applying an qualitative (narrative) analysis by making open ended and semi- structured interview questions to eight winegrowers in the region of Piedmont, Italy. What was found is that the extent to which winegrowers are aware of climate change effects strongly depends on the description they give regarding these changing phenomena happening over time and the impacts these have on their vineyards. Yet, from their description it seems that they are all well-aware of climate change. This research also assessed whether the winegrowers interviewed were thinking of adopting any adaptation strategy to cope with the adverse effects of the climate change effects for a near future. It was discovered that the adaptive measures explained depended on their awareness of the impacts of a changing climate on their wine business. From the adaptive measures described it is possible to conclude that climate change does not seem to pose a huge threat to their winegrowing activity but interestingly, winegrowers seem to pay much more attention to the wine market fluctuations demands. It is worth noting that the validity of these results and the research for this investigation as a whole has been affected by the covid-19 pandemic that influence the global community as whole.
